Learn. Lead. Lift.
The following communication has been sent to our families regarding Group Designation for Your Student for In-Person Learning.
Dear Lyn Knoll Families,
On September 28, all preschool and kindergarten students will return to in-person learning. Preschool students will return to their regular schedule; Monday - Thursday, 8:30-11:15 a.m. for the morning session, and 12:15-3:00 p.m. for the afternoon session.
Kindergarten students will return to a modified schedule the first 2 weeks; they will begin in-person learning in an AA/BB (MonTue/WedThu) model meaning cohort A will attend in-person on Mondays & Tuesdays, and cohort B will attend in-person on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Therefore, cohort A begins September 28, and cohort B begins September 30. There is no class on Fridays.
Starting October 12, we will provide hybrid in-person learning at Lyn Knoll. Please know that in order to accommodate family preferences, your child’s teacher may change. We are confident that your child will receive the same quality education whether you have selected to be 100% remote or hybrid during Quarter II.
In order to implement a hybrid model, all APS schools are dividing students who are learning in-person into two groups.
One group will attend school in person on designated “A” weeks. The other group will attend school in person on designated “B” weeks. Please know there is absolutely no difference between the “A” and “B” groups other than the weeks that students are assigned to attend in person. On days that students are not attending school in person, they will be learning remotely from home.
Dividing students who are attending school in person into two groups will allow our school to conduct in-person learning with half the number of students we would typically have in the building. This will allow for more social distancing opportunities and reduce traffic both in and around our school.
You will be receiving an email and letter via US postal service with details of your child's grouping and teacher.
If your student has been incorrectly identified as learning in person or fully remotely or if you have changed your mind, please contact our school by Sept. 22, 2020. In order to plan for safe social distancing, families who choose fully remote learning will not be able to change their selection to in-person learning for the second quarter after Sept. 22, 2020. Families who wish to switch from in-person learning to fully remote learning at home can do so at any time.
Please know that we are making efforts to keep families with multiple students all in the same group. We recognize the difficulty in coordinating parent work schedules and childcare. As such, if your students are identified in different groups, please contact us and let us know that your student needs to change groups.
As we prepare to welcome students back to in-person learning, we ask for your partnership in carefully reviewing and following all the health guidelines outlined below. We all need to do our part and work together to keep ourselves and our community safe.
In accordance with the statewide mask mandate, your student will be required to wear a mask or face covering throughout the day. This includes wearing a mask or face covering while on the school bus and in the classroom. Please practice mask wearing with your children regularly, so that they are prepared to wear them when returning to school. If students have medical conditions that prevent them from wearing a mask properly or are unable to wear a mask due to their disability, please work with school staff on an accommodation.
In addition to the mask requirement, all families must complete a health assessment for each student who is attending in-person learning every day before school. Do not send your student to school if any of the following are found during your student’s daily self-assessment.
❏ Check temperature
If the student’s temperature is 100.0°F or higher, do not send the student to school.
❏ Symptom check
❏ Sore throat
❏ Shortness of breath
❏ Muscle or body aches
❏ Loss of taste or smell
❏ Nausea or vomiting
❏ Nasal congestion if any of the above symptoms are included
If your student has any of the above symptoms, do not send them to school and contact your medical care provider for further advice. In addition, please notify school staff that you are keeping your child home and let school staff know about your child’s symptoms.
During the school day, students will be required to wash their hands frequently. Please practice proper hand washing at home by encouraging your children to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. In addition, we will have hand sanitizer regularly available for students.
We will also be practicing social distancing between individuals as much as possible. Please remind your children not to touch or hug other students, teachers or school staff while at school. Instead, please show them how to give a thumbs up or a friendly wave.
Lastly, school staff will be checking for symptoms regularly. If your student has COVID-19 symptoms, you will be contacted and asked to pick up your student from school immediately. In addition, if exposure within a cohort of school is identified, you will be contacted and asked to pick up your student from school immediately. Please ensure that you have plans in place for you or a designated guardian to quickly pick up your student during the school day.
We will continue to share information with you in the coming weeks. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
